What is Gujarat Shramik Basera Yojana ?
The Gujarat Shramik Basera Yojana was launched on July 18, 2024, by Gujarat’s Chief Minister “Bhupendra Patel”. Under this scheme, workers residing in Gujarat state will be provided temporary accommodation at a rate of ₹5 per day, which amounts to ₹150 per month. The Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board will oversee this scheme.
This scheme will benefit laborers who travel from one place to another within the state for work. For this purpose, houses will be built in four cities of Gujarat at a cost of 1500 crore rupees, and the Shramik Basera Yojana will be expanded over the next three years. Approximately 3 lakh construction workers will benefit from this, and the scheme will be further expanded in the future.
Additionally, housing centers will be established so that more people in the state can benefit from this scheme over time and their problems can be resolved.
Objective of Shramik Basera Yojana
The main objective of launching the Gujarat Shramik Basera Yojana is to provide temporary housing to workers working in the state of Gujarat. This will enable construction workers to access temporary accommodation near their work sites. Currently, workers spend a lot of time commuting to their work sites, and due to rising inflation, property and room rents have also increased, resulting in a waste of their time and money and causing them to face various problems. Keeping this in mind, this scheme has been launched by the Gujarat government.
Under the Shramik Basera Yojana, workers will not only be provided housing at ₹5 per day, but they will also be given food, accommodation, health, and financial assistance. For the Shramik Basera Yojana, the Chief Minister performed the ground-breaking ceremony for 17 housing structures for workers to live in. The Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board of the Gujarat government will build housing for workers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Rajkot cities, for which the government has made a provision of about 1500 crore rupees.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant applying for Shramik Basera Yojana must be a native of Gujarat.
- Applicant must be a construction worker.
- Labor buildings and other constructions should be registered with the Labor Welfare Board.
- The candidate should be between 21 years to 60 years.
- The candidate should have membership of Labor Welfare Board as a construction worker for 3 years.
